Vintage ~ c1880 ~ "C. Collins" Brass Microscope with Case & Accessories #1646:
$240

This lovely brass microscope by "C. Collins Opticians, 157, Gt. Portland St., London" has the the details impressed in to the rear of the stand, it comes in its' original case and is in "as found" condition. Charles Collins produced microscopes and other optical apparatus under his own name from 1863 until the early 1900s. He was well regarded for production of good quality, reasonably-priced equipment. There are no cracks or chips to the brass or cast iron base that I can find and the microscope has retained most of its' original lacquering, however, there are the usual scuffs, marks and scratches that you expect from a well used item of this age. The drawtube moves up and down with its' rack and pinion mechanism, however, it is a little 'notchy' when it starts but much smoother as it moves up and the spindle is a little bent. The fine focus wheel appears to be working. The mirror has no cracks or chips. It has two objectives in their named cans, two eypieces and a stage bullseye condenser. The microscope has its' original mahogany case, although the lock has been removed. The microscope measures approximately 32 cm (12 1/2 inches) tall. The microscope is sold as a collectors item and we have not tested it for clarity of image. Please be aware that customs or import duties may apply. There maybe delays with deliveries into the EU.
