RARE Kaleida Labs ScriptX D1 D1.5 Dev Manuals HyperCard Confidential 1992-94
Price: US $199.95

Rare original Kaleida Labs ScriptX D1 and D1.5 developer-documentation archive, 1992–1994.

Offered is a substantial, coherent collection of originalKaleida Labs ScriptXtechnical manuals, evaluation-release documents, developer-program material, and a Kaleida Worldwide Developer Program newsbrief.

This isnot a group of duplicate manuals. The documents are distinct items covering separate versions, release notes, language/core-class specification, HyperCard authoring, and developer-program support.

ScriptX was Kaleida Labs’ multimedia-oriented, object-oriented, cross-platform development environment. It was intended for interactive multimedia titles and applications during the classic Macintosh, Windows, OS/2, UNIX, CD-ROM, HyperCard, and early interactive-media era. Kaleida Labs was Apple and IBM’s multimedia-software joint venture.

Included

The lot includes the original items shown in the photographs:

  • D1.5 update documentation. The D1.5 release notes cover bug fixes and new functionality, including the ability to save actor edits, newly scripted classes and global functions, improvements to script-edit and listener windows, multiple stages, and two channels of audio.

  • Kaleida Labs was formed by Apple and IBM to develop multimedia software technologies. ScriptX was its principal development environment, incorporating a dynamic object-oriented language and class-library approach to build interactive, media-rich applications. It belongs to the same historically important early-1990s ecosystem as HyperCard, Macromedia Director, Authorware, ToolBook, and CD-ROM multimedia publishing.

Kaleida was short-lived: Apple and IBM announced that their joint venture would be discontinued in November 1995. Original evaluation and developer documentation from the company’s formative 1992–94 period is therefore uncommon and useful as primary-source material for computer-history researchers and collectors.
