These 8-bit ISA modem cards connect to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) for dial-up internet access, fax transmission, and bulletin board system (BBS) connectivity. The dual RJ-11 bracket allows one jack to connect to the wall line and a second for pass-through to a telephone handset. ISA modems of this generation are now largely obsolete for everyday internet use but remain sought by vintage PC enthusiasts, retro computing hobbyists, and anyone maintaining legacy DOS or early Windows systems that require an internal ISA dial-up modem. The Sportster 33.6K dates from the transitional era just before 56K modems (V.90/K56flex) became standard, representing one of the last high-speed pre-56K internal modem designs.
