Check your motherboard first: this is a passive adapter with no bifurcation chip. Your motherboard must support PCIe bifurcation (X4X4X4X4, X4X4X8 or Hyper M.2 X16 mode) and it must be enabled in BIOS. Without bifurcation, only the NVMe-1 port is recognized. Not compatible with X8X4X4 mode; not for Mac Pro 5.1.
Up to 64Gbps per drive: each SSD gets a dedicated PCIe 4.0 x4 link. Full PCIe 4.0 speed requires a PCIe 4.0 CPU (Intel 11th gen or newer), a PCIe 4.0 slot and a PCIe 4.0 SSD. Backward compatible with PCIe 3.0/2.0 at their own speeds.
Soft RAID via OS tools: no onboard RAID controller, so RAID 0/1 is built with Windows Disk Management, Storage Spaces or Linux mdadm on Intel and AMD platforms. Intel VROC requires a separate license.
