Overview: The Hewlett Packard HP Laserjet 4 C2001A was released in 1992-94. This unit was upgraded to a "4M" as seen in the 2nd picture above, far right badge. This upgrade increased RAM from 2MB to 6MB, expandable via SIMM slots); augmented language support from PLC 5 to Adobe PostScript Level 2 & PCL 5; added a LocalTalk/AppleTalk interface; augmented optional MIO card slot to standard JetDirect card (as seen in the 2rd picture above, left). So while the chassis tag 2001A remains on the back, this unit is now a Model 2021A. Both models sport a print speed of 8 ppm, resolution of 600 x 600 dpi monochrome, paper capacity of 350 sheets (250 lower tray, 100 fold-out tray), and a Canon EX print engine. Manual is attached as a .pdf in this listing.The 57 Service issue: This is why you're getting a tour of inside an HP Laserjet, chasing the error. A "57" error (5th picture above) is normally a paper jam. I found no paper jam or any obstruction, and as shown in some of the pictures, it's pretty clean inside. The error code means the printer has detected a main motor failure or mechanical binding in the gear train. The toner cartridge, fuser unit, and gears were checked. Nada. Or I missed something. Just in case, I replaced the Main Drive Motor RH7-1152 and the DC Control Board RG5-0511 (both seen and identified in the 15th picture above). SO, this is a cleaned and inspected printer with two replaced circuit board assemblies ... that needs someone to find out what I missed.
