Description:

Microsoft Works 9, released on September 28, 2007, was the final version of the discontinued Microsoft Works productivity suite, designed as a low-cost alternative to Microsoft Office for home users. It required Windows XP or Vista, a 1 GHz processor, and 256 MB of RAM, featuring a word processor, spreadsheet, database, and calendar with built-in compatibility for .DOC and .XLS formats.

While it supported opening and saving Office 2007’s .DOCX and .XLSX formats via a compatibility pack, it lacked advanced features like macros or relational database capabilities, and Microsoft officially discontinued the product line in 2009 in favor of Office Starter.

  • Core Components: Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Database, Calendar, and Dictionary.

Compatibility: Designed for Windows XP/Vista; later users reported successful installation on Windows 10.

  • File Formats: Native .WPS, .WKS, and .WDB files; supported import/export of Microsoft Office formats.

  • Status: Discontinued in 2007/2009; no longer supported or updated by Microsoft.
