Bring Barbie back to life on your vintage PC — and actually hear her talk!
Step straight back into the colorful world of 1990s computer entertainment with Talk With Me Barbie, an original 1997 Mattel Media CD-ROM created during one of the most nostalgic eras of Barbie and home computing.
This wasn't just another Barbie computer title. Talk With Me Barbie was designed to work interactively with the compatible talking Barbie doll, allowing the computer to program Barbie so she could talk and play in new ways — a wonderfully ambitious combination of toys and multimedia technology for the late 1990s.
The original tagline says it perfectly:
“Now you can program me to talk and we can play like never before!”
A GREAT PIECE OF 1990s BARBIE & PC HISTORY
This original CD-ROM package includes the colorful Talk With Me Barbie disc, jewel case artwork and original printed instructions shown in the photos.
The software dates from 1997 and is marked compatible with:
- Windows 3.1
- Windows 95
- PC CD-ROM
- Mattel Media
- Barbie Software for Girls
The included instructions provide a fascinating glimpse into how the system originally worked: install the software, connect the compatible Barbie doll to the computer, run the program, select what you wanted Barbie to say, download the choices, and then disconnect her to hear her talk.
That kind of computer-to-toy interaction was remarkably imaginative for children's software of the 1990s and makes this title especially interesting today.
MORE THAN JUST OLD SOFTWARE
For a Barbie collector, this is a piece of the brand's multimedia history.
For a retro-computing collector, it's a perfect example of the colorful educational and entertainment CD-ROM software that filled family PCs during the Windows 95 era.
And for anyone who grew up with Barbie in the 1990s, the graphics, jewel-case presentation and Mattel Media branding deliver an immediate dose of nostalgia.
The back cover even advertises other period Barbie CD-ROM releases including Barbie Magic Hair Styler and Adventures with Barbie Ocean Discovery, adding even more authentic late-'90s Barbie character to the package.
PERFECT FOR
- Barbie collectors
- Vintage Mattel collectors
- 1990s nostalgia collections
- Retro PC and Windows 95 enthusiasts
- Vintage CD-ROM software collectors
- Y2K and late-'90s technology displays
- Childhood computer game collections

IMPORTANT: This is legacy 1997 software designed for period Windows systems. Modern computer compatibility is not guaranteed. Interactive doll functions require the appropriate compatible hardware/doll, which is not included unless specifically shown in the photos.
Barbie meets 1990s technology in one wonderfully nostalgic CD-ROM — an eye-catching piece of Mattel history for the collector who remembers when interactive multimedia felt like the future.
