Vintage ASound Gold AS007 16-Bit ISA Sound CardAvance Logic ALS120 — ASound 3D-PnP — Game/MIDI Port — DOS and Windows Era
Offered here is a vintage ASound Gold AS007 16-bit ISA sound card, also identified on the circuit board as the ASound 3D-PnP. It is built around the Avance Logic ALS120 audio controller and was designed for late-1990s DOS and Windows-compatible desktop computers.
This is the exact card shown in the photographs. It includes the primary sound card and its attached ribbon-cable game/MIDI port bracket. No software, drivers, manuals, cables, adapters, or other accessories are included.
🕰️ Historical Background
Introduced during the late 1990s, the Avance Logic ALS120 belonged to the final major generation of ISA sound-card chipsets. By this period, Plug and Play configuration was replacing the banks of jumpers and manual resource assignments found on earlier sound cards, while PCI audio was beginning to displace ISA altogether.
Cards based on the ALS120 competed primarily in the affordable and OEM markets. They provided the capabilities expected of a contemporary multimedia PC without commanding the premium associated with Creative Labs products.
Historically advertised features of the ALS120 included:
- Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro compatibility
- Sound Blaster 16-style digital audio support
- Windows Sound System compatibility
- Plug and Play ISA configuration
- Integrated FM music synthesis
- Built-in 3D audio effects
- Game-controller support
- MPU-401 UART-compatible MIDI through the game port
- CD-ROM analog audio input
The ALS120 uses its own integrated FM implementation rather than a genuine Yamaha OPL3 chip. Compatibility and musical reproduction can therefore differ from an original Yamaha-equipped Sound Blaster card, which is part of the character—and occasional adventure—of using period PC audio hardware.

✅ Operational Information
This card has not been recently bench-tested in a period-correct ISA computer. It was retained as a functional component and is being offered for use in a compatible vintage system.
Please understand that installing a vintage ISA sound card is considerably more involved than connecting a modern USB audio device. A lack of immediate sound does not necessarily indicate a defective card.
Successful operation may depend upon:
- Locating and installing the correct ALS120 or ASound driver package
- Selecting non-conflicting I/O, IRQ, and DMA resources
- Correct DOS memory-manager configuration
- Proper CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT entries
- Application-specific sound settings
- Properly configured motherboard ISA resources
- Compatible operating-system and game software
- Correct identification of the input and output connections
No promise is made that every DOS game, Windows version, modern motherboard, ISA adapter, emulator, MIDI device, CD-ROM drive, or third-party driver package will support this card.
The buyer is responsible for confirming compatibility with the intended computer and software environment.
🖥️ System Requirements
This is a legacy 16-bit ISA expansion card intended for a compatible vintage PC motherboard with an available ISA slot.
It is not a PCI, PCI Express, USB, or modern integrated-audio device. Modern computers generally cannot accept this card without specialized hardware, and compatibility with modern ISA bridge products is not guaranteed.
🧹 Physical Condition
The circuit board appears clean overall, with its installed components, audio connectors, ISA edge connector, ribbon cable, and secondary bracket intact. The metal brackets show ordinary age-related tarnish and oxidation.
Unpopulated component footprints visible on the circuit board appear to be part of the board design and are not being represented as missing user-removable components.
Please examine all photographs carefully. They show the exact card being offered and form an important part of the condition description.
📦 Shipping and Packaging
The card will be enclosed in anti-static protective material, supported against flexing, and packed inside a sturdy outer shipping carton. Particular care will be taken to protect the circuit board, ISA edge connector, ribbon cable, and external brackets.
