In short, leaking capacitors, bad batteries, corrosion, old grease & oil, and magnetic breakdown are taking our digital history from us. Every vintage computer will eventually cease to function, in some cases irrevocably, if we don't take the necessary steps to repair and protect them. Emulation and software archives are an important part of protecting this digital past - but being able to run it on real hardware and experience it as it was is just as important. Taking the steps now to keep these machines operational preserves them for future generations to enjoy. It also gives peace of mind that you receive a machine that will be operational and able to be enjoyed as it was supposed to be.
